Native of Upstate New York, earned degree in music and jazz performance from Oberlin Conservatory.... Played with Squirrel Nut Zippers, Countdown Qt., Jumpstarts, Hobex, Jazz Squad All-Stars, King Rippers, Platinum Heavyweights, Hose, J'Azure, Raleigh Jazz Orchestra, Katharine Whalen, and others.... National TV appearances include "Live with Regis and Kathy Lee," "Live with Regis and Dara Torres," "Conan O'Brien," and "Sesame Street".... Byron Paul, vocals & guitar In the summer of 1972, offered a job with a band called Heartwood that released two albums: "Heartwood" and "Nothin’ Fancy," which was produced by Paul Hornsby who played in early versions of The Allman Brothers Band and produced The Marshall Tucker Band and The Charlie Daniels Band.... In 1977, offered a position with the touring band for B. J. Thomas. Stayed with B.J.'s band till 1981.... Continued playing for several years. Married in 1986, gradually stopped playing, concentrating on family and work, until John Woodall in 2003 put together the resurrected Soul Searchers.... Virginia Ward, vocals Began singing country with a group called Roy House and the Carolina Drifters, then with a country rock band called Freeborn.... Also performed with Talicud Trail, Pamlico Sound, Hell and Highwater, and Fairmont Gospel Revue.... Letter carrier for the U.S. Postal Service.... |

Has played with big bands, rock bands, string bands, jazz bands, and jug bands over many years.... Former resident of Iowa and New Jersey who has lived in the Triangle region of N.C. for 25 years... Likes dinghy racing and "Florida art".... A cabinetmaker in real life.... Former lead trumpet in the UNC-CH Jazz Laboratory Band.... Played in backup bands for the Spinners, Johnnie Ray, Debbie Boone.... Lead trumpet in regional big bands: Jimmy Dorsey, Bo Thorpe and Generation Two, Continentals, Dejans.... Trumpet player in high school, taught self to play bass guitar for the original Soul Searchers Band in mid-1960s (switched to trumpet when band decided to add a horn section).... From mid-1980s to early 2000s, played trumpet in Johnston Techniques Jazz Band.... Besides Soul Searchers, also playing bass at present time with a Smithfield jazz trio called Vintage Accents.... Day job: director of the Johnston County Heritage Center.... Started playing piano and trumpet in grade school, added drums, baritone, and trombone and played in high school band.... Played in various John Woodall rock 'n' roll bands in the 1980s and early 1990s.... Joined the Soul Searchers in 2003.... Licensed clinical counselor in private practice.... Was born: (a) under a bad sign, (b) to be wild, or (c) a coal miner's daughter....
